Christian Faculty and Staff Network gathering on 4/27 - Last meeting for the semester and presentation on science and faith by Bill Keel
Join us on Wednesday, April 27, at 11:45 AM (done by 12:45 PM). We meet at the Baptist Campus Ministries building library (University Boulevard and 4th Avenue).
Lunch will not be served, so plan to brown bag or get something to go from food place.
Our own Bill Keel will share ideas on science and faith. Let's get to know Bill:
- Dr. William C. Keel, Ph.D. Professor of Astronomy, is an Astronomer
and astrophysicist who has worked with many of the world's most powerful
optical and radio telescopes, and satellite observatories such as the
Hubble Space Telescope. He specializes in galaxies, their history, and
their interactions.
- Science and faith topics Bill has spoken on:
- An Astronomer Looks at Genesis
- Life in the Universe - Are We Alone and Does It Matter?
Our book for Fall 2022: Hollywood Worldviews: Watching Films with Wisdom and
Discernment by Brian Godawa.
- From the Goodreads description: In this thoroughly revised and
updated edition of his popular book, Brian Godawa guides you through the
place of redemption in film, the tricks screenwriters use to communicate
their messages, and the mental and spiritual discipline required for
watching movies.
- Brian Godawa wrote the screenplay for the movie To End all Wars,
starring Keifer Sutherland, Robert Carlyle, CiarĂ¡n McMenamin, and Mark
Strong. Based on the memoir of Captain Ernest Gordon about his time as a
prisoner of war during World War II. The movie is excellent and has a
strong theme of redemption throughout. It won the Crystal Heart Award and
Grand Prize for Dramatic Feature at the Heartland Film Festival.
- Brian Godawa has already committed to visiting us via Zoom.
I came across an online
apologetics conference you might be interested in. Here's something
from the website:
- Many Christians feel nervous about speaking up.
- How can you speak into our confused culture with grace and
truth?
- It’s time to take God 'off mute’ and find your authentic voice
again.
- At this year’s conference, hosted by Justin Brierley, live from the British Library in London, leading thinkers, evangelists and theologians from across the world will help Christians learn how to be a confident voice and faithful witness to Christ.
These happened on the day of our meeting
