Christian Faculty and Staff Network gathering on 12/1 - Wrap up, prayer for the campus, book for next term
Join us on Wednesday, 12/1, at 11:45 AM (done by 12:45 PM). We meet at the Baptist Campus Ministries building (University Boulevard and 4th Avenue), and (drum roll!) lunch will be served! At $1 per meal, it's the best meal deal in town.
Meeting logistics
If weather permits, we'll sit outside. Otherwise, we'll meet in the BCM Library.
Lunch will not be served at the BCM. Instead the Bishops kindly volunteered to bring sandwiches and water. You're welcome to bring your own beverages as well or food that might meet a particular dietary requirement.
Wrap-up preview
We'll close out Francis Chan's book, Crazy Love: Overwhelmed by a Relentless God. He has guided us on a journey of discovering what love for God looks like to how we can live according to that love.
We'll also take time to pray for student, faculty, and staff as we close out the semester.
Next meeting
Our first meeting of the spring term will be January 12.
We'll discuss Sacred Endurance: Finding Grace and Strength for a Lasting
Faith by Trillia Newbell. Here is the abstract on Amazon:
- God promises to finish the good work he began in us―but that doesn't
come without bumps in the road. Life can be hard, faith can wane, and
distractions abound. Too many today are at risk of compromising their
integrity or giving up on their faith. How can we persevere to the end?
- Trillia Newbell, a fellow struggler on the journey, offers
encouragement and hope for us to run the race well. While life may be full
of challenges, we have a true and real hope in Jesus, who provides us with
what we need to endure through pain and doubt. Newbell shares theological
insights and practical disciplines to train us for faithful, godly living
over the long haul.
- The race is hard, but you are not running it alone. Find strength and courage here to endure and finish well.
These happened on the day of our meeting
- 1917. Father Edward Flanagan founded Boys Town at Omaha, Nebraska.
- 1950. Jim Eliot wrote, "Unwillingness to accept 'God's way of
escape' from temptation frightens me - what a rebel yet resides
within."
