Christian Faculty and Staff Network gathering on 10/20 - Next discussion: Chapter 7 – Your best life…later
Join us on Wednesday, October 20, at 11:45 AM (done by 12:45 PM). We meet at the Baptist Campus Ministries building (University Boulevard and 4th Avenue), and (drum roll!) lunch will be served! At $1 per meal, it's the best meal deal in town.
Meeting logistics
Meet space change - reminder
Weather permitting, we'll gather at the picnic tables by the front door of the building. That should give us an opportunity to enjoy the fall weather.
When we do meet indoors or when weather precludes using the picnic tables, we'll meet in the Baptist Campus Ministries library to take advantage of a little more square footage. When you enter the double doors, walk straight toward the dining hall. The library will be on the left before you enter the dining hall. There will be a lot of people there who can guide you.
The latest on masks
Here is information from the Baptist Campus Ministries
director regarding masks in the building: You are no longer required to wear a
mask with a few exceptions. However, we encourage you to wear them 1) if you
prefer to or 2) if you are not vaccinated.
- Masks and gloves will still be required in the kitchen when
preparing or serving food.
- Masks will still be required on home game days.
- Masks and hand sanitizer will still be available at the main door.
Chapter 7 preview
On 10/20, we'll discuss Chapter 7of Francis Chan's Crazy
Love: Overwhelmed by a Relentless God. Francis Chan hits us with the
question: "What does running toward Christ and pursuing Love look like in
daily life?"
- "How would my life change if I actually thought of each person
I came into contact with as Christ—the person driving painfully slow in front
of me, the checker at the grocery store who seems more interested in
chatting than ringing up my items, the member of my own family with whom I
can't seem to have a conversation and not get annoyed?"
- "God wants us to trust him with abandon."
If you'd like to facilitate a session
You're welcome to facilitate one of our meetings as
well. Since we're still meeting virtually, the current schedule is also online for your reference.
Some things you might want to do:
- Facilitate the discussion of the current chapter of the book we're
going through. That involves asking questions and inviting responses.
- Giving a discipline talk about what you're doing in your area. It's
a chance to get to know you and what you're doing at UA.
- Bring in a guest speaker (we can also dial up someone on
speakerphone).
- Invite your pastor or college minister to chat about college students
in your church.
- Etc. That's a catch-all in case you have a great idea about something else for our lunch gathering.
Items of interest
Think about it
GK Chesterton said some things that highlight the
message of Chapter 7.
- "The Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting. It
has been found difficult; and left untried."
- "The way to love anything is to realize that it might be lost."
These happened on the day of our meeting
- 1781. The Continental Army observed a service of thanksgiving as
directed by General George Washington the day after the British
surrendered at Yorktown.
- 1949. The Inklings held their last meeting. Famous members of this
group of thinkers and writers included JRR Tolkien, CS Lewis, and Dorothy
Sayers.
