Christian Faculty and Staff Network gathering on 10/6 - Next discussion: Chapter 5 – Serving leftovers to a holy God

Join us on Wednesday, October 6, at 11:45 AM (done by 12:45 PM). We meet at the Baptist Campus Ministries building (University Boulevard and 4th Avenue), and (drum roll!) lunch will be served! At $1 per meal, it's the best meal deal in town.

Meeting logistics

Meet space change - reminder

Weather permitting, we'll gather at the picnic tables by the front door of the building. That should give us an opportunity to enjoy the fall weather.

When we do meet indoors or when weather precludes using the picnic tables, we'll meet in the Baptist Campus Ministries library to take advantage of a little more square footage.

Chapter 4 preview

Jarran Hill will lead us in discussing Chapter 5 of Francis Chan's Crazy Love: Overwhelmed by a Relentless God. Where Chapter 4 might have been hard for us to read, Francis Chan said Chapter 5 was the hardest for him to write.

Here's a taste of what's coming up:

  • "Jesus's call to commitment is clear. He wants all or nothing."
  • "God wants our best, deserves our best, and demands our best."
  • "If life is a river, then pursuing Christ requires swimming upstream. When we stop swimming, or actively following Him, we automatically begin to be swept downstream."

Think about it

Amidst the latest "game of the century" hype about the upcoming Alabama-Ole Miss football game, Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin has a message that's easy to overlook.

Since we're on the topic of giving all to God, here is a poem by George Herbert (1593 – 1633). Christ calls on His followers to be living sacrifices, so George Herbert formatted this poem about being a living sacrifice to look like an altar

In case you're interested, the attached email contains information on how to register for the annual meeting of the Christian Scientific Society on November 5-6. It looks like you can attend in person or via Zoom.

These happened on the day of our meeting

  • 1536. William Tyndale was martyred in England. His translation of the New Testament was the first translation of the Bible into English.
  • 1892. Alfred, Lord Tennyson died. A famous English poet and Poet Laureate for much of Queen Victoria's reign, he integrated his faith into his literary works.
