Come to the Christian Faculty and Staff Fellowship on Wednesday, 4/21, at 11:45 AM (done by 12:45 PM). This will be the last meeting for the term!
We'll finish Chapter 6 and wrap up of The Outrageous
Idea of Christian Scholarship by George M. Marsden. If Christians are
informing their scholarship with their faith, what would that look like and
what difference would it make? The Amazon links are:

Book selected! For Fall
2021, we'll discuss Francis Chan's Crazy Love: Overwhelmed by a Relentless
God. From the Amazon abstract:
- God is love. Crazy,
relentless, all-powerful love. Have
you ever wondered if we're missing it?
- It's crazy, if you think about it. The God of the universe—the
Creator of nitrogen and pine needles, galaxies and E-minor—loves us with a
radical, unconditional, self-sacrificing love.
- And what is our typical response? We go to church, sing songs, and
try not to cuss. Whether you've verbalized it yet or not, we all know
something's wrong.
- Does something deep inside your heart long to break free from the
status quo? Are you hungry for an authentic faith that addresses the
problems of our world with tangible, even radical, solutions?
- God is calling you to a passionate love relationship with Himself.
Because the answer to religious complacency isn't working harder at a list
of do's and don'ts—it's falling in love with God.
- And once you encounter His love, as Francis describes it, you will
never be the same. Because when you're wildly in love with someone, it
changes everything.

Back to the building: It looks like we get to meet face-to-face for the Fall 2021 term with the first meeting being on August 18. I'm in touch with the Baptist Campus Ministries director, who has always been kind enough to provide a meeting room.
How can Christians in STEM impact the culture? The Science & Entertainment Exchange (The Exchange) is a program of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) that connects entertainment industry professionals with top scientists and engineers to create a synergy between accurate science and engaging storylines in both film and TV programming. It's not a faith-based organization, but, after reading Marsden's book this term, it's intriguing to think about what perspective Christian scholars might contribute to that part of culture.
These happened on 4/21
- 1855. Edward Kimball, a Sunday school teacher, led Dwight L. Moody
to follow Jesus Christ. Moody went on to a long and fruitful preaching
career.
- 1869. Thomas Huxley coined the term "agnostic" to describe
those unable to conclude definitively the existence of God among other big
issues.
