UA Christian Staff and Faculty Fellowship - Guest speaker: Peter Bonilla on the rights of staff and faculty in higher ed, 3/3
Come to the Christian Faculty and Staff Fellowship on Wednesday, 3/3, at 11:45 AM (done by 12:45 PM).
Our program
Peter Bonilla, Vice President of Programs for Foundation for
Individual Rights in Education (FIRE), will join us on 3/3 to
discuss the rights of faculty and staff in higher education. He will keep his
presentation short to make more time for Q&A.
- Here is FIRE's mission statement: "The
Foundation for Individual Rights in Education’s mission is to defend and
sustain the individual rights of students and faculty members at America’s
colleges and universities. These rights include freedom of speech, freedom
of association, due process, legal equality, religious liberty, and
sanctity of conscience—the essential qualities of liberty. FIRE educates
students, faculty, alumni, trustees, and the public about the threats to
these rights on our campuses, and provides the means to preserve
them."
- FIRE is not a religious organization but is a nonpartisan
organization "employs a diverse staff from across the ideological and
political spectrum with varying educational backgrounds."
- In addition to representing students, Peter has successfully represented many higher education faculty and staff in First Amendment and academic freedom cases.
Meeting logistics
We'll continue to meet on Zoom until it's clear that staff, faculty, and students are fully back on campus and pursuing their regular activities. I'll keep checking for announcements about that.
