UA Christian Staff and Faculty Fellowship - Defining expository apologetics, 9/2

Join us on 9/2 on Zoom at 11:45 AM - 12:45 PM for a UA Christian Staff and Faculty Fellowship gathering.

9/2 was a big day in history. Representatives of the Japanese Government signed the formal surrender documents on the USS Missouri, bringing WW II to an official close. Captain Mitsuo Fuchida, the lead pilot for the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor went on to become a Christian evangelist after the war.

You're welcome to be eating your lunch during the gathering.

We'll cover the rest of Chapter 1 of the book we're discussing. Our book for the fall term is Expository Apologetics: Answering Objections with the Power of the Word by Voddie Baucham Jr. Here are some Amazon links:

I saw an old video of Woody Allen interviewing Billy Graham that exemplified the spirit of expository apologetics. 2 things stood out:

  • Billy Graham's demeanor throughout was pleasant and winsome. When Woody Allen made some wisecracks, Graham didn't respond in anger, irritation, of frustration. Instead, he did something else.
  • He continually referred to the Bible in his responses. Voddie Boucham's book stresses that point. We can address apologetics topics by referring to the Bible.

Alan Tidwell linked us to a Magis Center page describing evidence for God from contemporary science and philosophy and a PDF describing those evidences

These happened on 9/2

  • 1973. JRR Tolkien, author of The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, died.
  • 1979. Xie Songsan offered the welcome and benediction for re-opening Moore Memorial Church in Shanghai. Communist authorities had closed the church in 1966 and imprisoned Xie.
