We'll go through the Fourth Letter from Brother Lawrence in The Practice of the Presence of God. We'll seek advice from one who, while maintaining a degree of isolation in his order, never lacked for companionship with God. 

You can find the work at no cost in the Christian Classics Ethereal Library. It's also available for free at Project Gutenberg and the Internet Archive among other locations. 

I also formatted the Christian Classics Ethereal Library version in outline form to make the text easier to follow.

Are you interested in being a resource to organizations looking for Christian professionals to speak? I've been asked by some ministers if group members can speak on topics of applying faith to life. The Broken Jar 

Mike Parker alerted me to a story from Dr. Daniel C. Potts, Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center, about Daniel's father and Alzheimer's titled The Broken Jar. 

On 7/15:

  • 1779. Clement C. Moore was born. We remember the founder of the Episcopal General Theological Seminary more for his Christmas poem, "A Visit from St. Nicholas."
  • 1852. The first Hawaiian missionaries departed to carry the gospel to the Caroline Islands.

UA Christian Staff and Faculty Fellowship - Chapter 4 - Making a difference; and don't forget the book survey, 4/7

Come to the Christian Faculty and Staff Fellowship on Wednesday, 3/24, at 11:45 AM (done by 12:45 PM).  We'll finish Chapter 4 of The Outrageous Idea of Christian Scholarship by George M. Marsden. If Christians are informing their scholarship with their faith, what would that look like and what difference would it make? Christian Faculty and Staff Fellowship meets November 28

  I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoyed the time off. We'll resume on 11/28 with a visit by Jennifer Waddell , Athletes in Action , thanks to Phil Bishop.   Next semester's book: Love Your God with All Your Mind: The Role of Reason in the Life of the Soul by J.P. Moreland (NavPress, 2011). The title is linked to Amazon. Make sure to get the 2012 version. It's an updated version of the book from 1997. Moreland makes the case for the intellectual appeal and rigor of Christianity. It has a cultural, worldview, and apologetics outlook and is relevant to us who want to be salt and light in the groves of academe. The book can be a basis for other readings we would do.   Looking ahead: I came across this announcement for the Dallas Conference on Science and Faith in January 2019 .
