Christian faculty and staff gathering on Zoom on May 27 - The Second Conversation with Brother Lawrence

On Wednesday, May 27, at 12:00 PM Central we'll do the Third Conversation in Brother Lawrence's The Practice of the Presence of God. We'll seek advice from one who, while maintaining a degree of isolation in his order, never lacked for companionship with God.

You can find the work at no cost in the Christian Classics Ethereal Library. It's also available for free at Project Gutenberg and the Internet Archive among other locations.

Here is the Zoom Room information:

Ravi Zacharias died on May 19, 2020, after a illustrious career as an apologist for Christianity.  Ravi Zacharias International Ministries has been sharing his articles. One article, "From Disparate Threads,"  seemed relevant to what we've been learning from Brother Lawrence.

  • The epiphany came after watching a father and son weave saris and understanding "the design God has for each one of us individually, if we would only respond."
  • It seems he had a similar bout of questioning and found his answers in the second half of John 14:19, "because I live, you will live also."
  • He took stock of his life, writing, "A purposeful design emerges when the Father weaves a pattern from what to us may often seem disparate threads. Even today, if you will stop and attend to it, you will see that God is seeking to weave a beautiful tapestry in your life."

On 5/27, some notable births:

  • 1819. Julia Ward Howe, an abolitionist who composed the Battle Hymn of the Republic.
  • 1902. Peter Marshall, noted Chaplain of the Senate, whose story was chronicled in his wife Catherine's book, A Man Called Peter.
  • 1927. Ralph Carmichael, Nat King Cole's regular arranger and composer of popular songs like "He's Everything to Me."
