Christian Faculty and Staff Fellowship meets April 3

Join the Christian Faculty Network for a lunch gathering on 4/3 - Hear from Nate Mirza about serving international students

Come to the Christian Faculty Network lunch meeting on Wednesday, April 3 at 11:45 AM (done by 12:45 PM). We meet at the Baptist Campus Ministries building (University Boulevard and 4th Avenue).

Plan on the best meal deal in town: You can get lunch there for $1 thanks to the generosity of local churches. Don't forget to thank the church workers for what they do for the students.

We had a wonderful overview of the Jonathan Edwards Center at Yale from Kenneth Minkema, Executive Editor, Jonathan Edwards Center

We have a guest speaker for our 4/3 gathering, Nate Mirza, Navigators International Student Ministry, who will help us understand the experience of international students in our universities. That knowledge can help us serve this group better.

Some information about Nate:

  • With more than 40 years of ministry experience among internationals, Nate Mirza provides insight into the reentry challenges these students face, as well as practical strategies and resources to prepare them for a lifetime of service for Christ.
  • Nate Mirza grew up in Iran's Assyrian community and entered into a personal relationship with Christ as an international student at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. On staff with The Navigators since 1961, Nate has spent the past three decades ministering to international students and coaching others to do the same.

I came across a reflection by Rosalind Picard of MIT. She wasn't in A Grander Story, so I thought her essay about being a Christian in the academy would be interesting. She had this to say: "I once thought I was too smart to believe in God. Now I know I was an arrogant fool who snubbed the greatest Mind in the cosmos—the Author of all science, mathematics, art, and everything else there is to know."

Today

  • 1593 George Herbert was born in Wales and later became a clergyman and poet who also wrote many hymns. His poem, "Easter Wings" is good lead-in to the Easter season.
  • 1968 Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. said in his famous "Mountaintop" sermon about the Good Samaritan, "And so the first question that the Levite asked was, 'If I stop to help this man, what will happen to me?' But then the Good Samaritan came by. And he reversed the question: 'If I do not stop to help this man, what will happen to him?'"
