Christian Faculty and Staff Fellowship meets February 6

Did you know February 6 is Lame Duck Day? One form of lame duck is the person getting ready to retire who stops being productive even though still on the job. Just this past Sunday I heard this in a sermon: "There's no retirement plan in the Bible," and a recurring theme is finishing strong. I guess that means while the body of Christ has many parts, the list doesn't include lame ducks. 

Come to the Christian Faculty Network lunch meeting on Wednesday, February 6 at 11:45 AM (done by 12:45 PM). We meet at the Baptist Campus Ministries building (University Boulevard and 4th Avenue). 

Plan on the best meal deal in town: You can get lunch there for $1 thanks to the generosity of local churches. Don't forget to thank the church workers for what they do for the students.

Wow! We had a great discussion on Chapter 2 of our book, thanks to Jarran Hill's facilitation. Next up, Chapter 3 with Blake McKinney. Our book for this term: Love Your God with All Your Mind: The Role of Reason in the Life of the Soul by J.P. Moreland (NavPress, 2012). The title is linked to Amazon. Make sure to get the 2012 version.

  • It's an updated version of the book from 1997. If you have the 1997 edition, you'll find Chapters 7-9 are different. The other chapters have few changes. It's OK to use your older copy, however, because there is some good material in those older chapters. We won't include those chapters in the final exam!
  • We will have a few spare books for those unable to get their own copy.
  • Moreland makes the case for the intellectual appeal and rigor of Christianity. It has a cultural, worldview, and apologetics outlook and is relevant to us who want to be salt and light in the groves of academe. The book can be a basis for other readings we would do. 

I attached outlines of Chapters 1, 2, and 3 to give an idea of what the chapters cover. I also attached the latest list of what's happening this semester during our meetings. DROPBOX link instead?

  • 1922 In becoming Pope Pius XI, Ambrogio Damiano Achille Ratti became the 1st pope to serve after Vatican City became a sovereign state.

UA Christian Staff and Faculty Fellowship - Chapter 4 - Making a difference; and don't forget the book survey, 4/7

  I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoyed the time off. We'll resume on 11/28 with a visit by Jennifer Waddell , Athletes in Action , thanks to Phil Bishop.   Next semester's book: Love Your God with All Your Mind: The Role of Reason in the Life of the Soul by J.P. Moreland (NavPress, 2011). The title is linked to Amazon. Make sure to get the 2012 version. It's an updated version of the book from 1997. Moreland makes the case for the intellectual appeal and rigor of Christianity. It has a cultural, worldview, and apologetics outlook and is relevant to us who want to be salt and light in the groves of academe.
