Christian Faculty and Staff Fellowship meets October 24

 Guess what? I goofed. I thought the BCM building would be closed on October 24 because it was the first day of Fall Break. It will actually be open, but the catch is they won't have one of the $1 lunches. We'll have to brown bag it. 

For those who want to meet, I will be there at the usual time: 11:45 PM. We'll keep it low key so we can get to know each other a little more. Don't forget to bring your own lunch that day.

 

Many thanks to Lori for leading the discussion on Chapter 7, the last chapter, of our book.

 

More importantly, Lori White passed this news to me. Susan and Nathan Dendy welcomed Livi Joy Dendy (UA 2040) on October 11, 2018. At 20 inches, Livi weighed 6 lbs, 10 oz. Susan and Livi are doing famously, and all thank you for your prayers.

 

These things happened today.

·         1826 Ann Hasseltine Judson died. As a missionary in Burma with her husband, Adoniram, she was one of the first American women to go on the mission field. They translated Scripture and other religious texts into Burmese, the first such works in the Burmese language.

·         1956 Margaret Ellen Towner became the first woman to be ordained as a minister in the Presbyterian Church of the USA.

 

Can robots teach theology? A robot, Bina48, co-taught an introduction to ethics course at West Point that covers ethical reasoning, just war theory, and the use of artificial intelligence in society.

UA Christian Staff and Faculty Fellowship - Chapter 4 - Making a difference; and don't forget the book survey, 4/7

Christian Faculty and Staff Fellowship meets November 28

  I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoyed the time off. We'll resume on 11/28 with a visit by Jennifer Waddell , Athletes in Action , thanks to Phil Bishop.   Next semester's book: Love Your God with All Your Mind: The Role of Reason in the Life of the Soul by J.P. Moreland (NavPress, 2011). The title is linked to Amazon. Make sure to get the 2012 version. It's an updated version of the book from 1997. Moreland makes the case for the intellectual appeal and rigor of Christianity. It has a cultural, worldview, and apologetics outlook and is relevant to us who want to be salt and light in the groves of academe. The book can be a basis for other readings we would do.   Looking ahead: I came across this announcement for the Dallas Conference on Science and Faith in January 2019 .
