Christian Faculty and Staff Fellowship meets on October 3

Join the Christian Faculty Network lunch bunch on Wednesday, October 3 at 11:45 AM (done by 12:45 PM). We meet at the Baptist Campus Ministries building (University Boulevard and 4th Avenue).

Don’t forget: You can get lunch there for $1 thanks to the generosity of local churches. Don't forget to thank the church workers for what they do for the students.

Many thanks to Liz Stovall for leading the Chapter 5 discussion last Wednesday. What a great discussion of serious topics. A couple of ideas that stuck in my mind:

  • Who is in our churches that we should seek and save?
  • To own our brokenness is a dangerous act.
  • It's a great thing to see someone functioning in the wheelhouse of God's calling.

Shawn Mobbs will lead us in discussion Chapter 6.

October 3 is the day to let your computer go on the fritz. It's National Techies Day, so a broken computer would give you a chance to appreciate your friendly neighborhood techie. Well, appreciate them anyway even if your computer works just fine.

What happened today in Christian history?

  • 1226 Death of Saint Francis of Assisi. A mendicant Catholic leader, He and his followers grew into a religious order.
  • 1852 Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet launched a ministry to the deaf, conducting one of the earliest reported church services for the deaf in the US. A son, Edward Miner Gallaudet, founded what became Gallaudet University.
  • Apologist Francis Schaeffer wrote, "It seems to me that we do tend to have two creeds -  the one which we believe in our intellectual assent, and then the one which we believe to the extent of acting on it in faith. More and more it seems to me that the true level of our orthodoxy is measured by this latter standard rather than the former."

Whatcha thinking 'bout?
